Device for preventing breakage of the steering lock tooth, by thieves, in vehicles fitted with this security mechanism, by means of the engagement of a spring assembly which acts before the tooth itself can break, while nonetheless continuing to prevent the vehicle from being steered. The invention consists in the interposition, between the fixed seating of the steering wheel which houses the lock tooth (when the security mechanism is in the engaged position), of a spring device which (when the steering wheel is subjected to a large force intended to break this tooth) allows the steering wheel to be freed before the tooth can break, while nonetheless continuing to apply a large and repeated resistance to the steering wheel such that the vehicle cannot be steered freely.
