The system is designed to enable remote reading of domestic gas meters, which reading will be carried out by the utility company, which can also cut off the gas supply, all of which without having to enter the user's household. Linked to each of the meters (2) is an impulse emitter device, which is in turn connected to the respective valve (3). The system can include means for monitoring leakage, excess flow, short circuits and automatic actuation of the valves in response to a monitored signal. The concentrator may be connected to remote reading means via telephone line, mains cable or an R F link.
