A process is described for the preparation of 4-(2'4'-difluorophenyl)-anisole by halogenation of 2,4-difluorobiphenyl and the replacement of the halogen atom with an alkaline methoxide. 4-(2'4'-Difluorophenyl)-anisole is an intermediate useful for the preparation of Diflunisal.
