Method for reducing the smoke in the exhaust gases of petrol and diesel motor vehicles by means of a jet of atomized water and devices for implementing this method

A method for reducing the polluting agents produced by the exhaust gases of petrol and diesel motor vehicles by eliminating them using jets of atomized water at the exhaust outlet is described. The device which implements this method has an atomizing nozzle supplied with water from a tank mounted on-board the vehicle and with air pressurized by a small compressor which is preferably already present and powered by the on-board battery so as to emit the acoustic signal. The jet is directed perpendicularly with respect to the stream of gas leaving the exhaust pipe which has, mounted on it, a concave element, which is preferably made of stainless steel, and against which the jet of atomized water strikes with a back-pressure effect which gives rise to a double gas- washing action.
