The subject of the invention is a novel cooling collar- cum-die suitable for semi-continuous casting, from which aluminium billets are formed for use in plastic-flow extrusion processes. The collar is made by joining metal components which, when put together, form a number of interconnected annular and radial ducts. The said channels convey the water under pressure to where it produces a fine jet of frustoconical form which envelopes the surface of the billet currently being formed. The said jet of water is necessary for the formation and smooth, deformity-free finishing of the billet and helps it pass through the collar-cum-die. IMAGE
