The invention relates to a process for improving the surface characteristics of steel sheets which have a corrosion coating of an aluminium/zinc alloy. Experience has shown that the surface of these sheets is nonuniform, so that subsequent even coating is not directly possible. However, in order to render the surface sufficiently uniform to permit coating to be carried out, zinc dust is blown into the coating before it has solidified, the zinc dust suppressing the formation of a structure.
