An additive of the general formula I IMAGE in which R1 and R2 together with the carbon atoms, to which they are linked, form a saturated 5- to 7-membered carbon ring which is optionally substituted by one or more substituents which can be identical or different and are selected from the group of lower alkyl and lower alkoxy, is added to mineral oils and mineral oil products, especially electrically insulating oils. This makes possible a good oxidation resistance and hence an extended durability of the oils. Furthermore, spent mineral oils and mineral oil products can be reprocessed using compounds of the formula I, since metal ions present are bound or removed.
