METHOD FOR USE OF MORPHOLOGICAL INFORMATION TO CROSSREFERENCE KEYWORDS USED FOR INFORMATION RETRIEVALAbstractA data processing method is disclosed for storing andretrieving text. The storage part of the method includesthe steps of compiling a vocabulary list of wordsoccurring in the text and augmenting the vocabulary listwith lemmas of the words in the text, as an augmented wordlist. It then continues with the steps of compiling across reference table relating the lemmas of the words tolocations of the words in the text and storing the text,the augmented word list and the cross reference table.The retrieval part of the method includes the steps ofinputting a query word to access a portion of the storedtext, searching the augmented vocabulary list using thequery word as a search term, and accessing the crossreference table with a lemma of the query word to locatethe portion of the stored text. The resulting inventionenables a faster performance for "fuzzy" searches of textin documents, while enabling the cross reference listsused in the retrieval process, to be compactly stored.
