A pipeline pig has hollow flared ends 16 and acentral portion 14 of smaller radial dimension thanadjacent parts of the pig. Detachable appendages 32extend radially outward from the pig in circumferentialrows. At least one row of appendages 32 is in the centralportion 14 and the appendages extend radially outwardless than the other rows of appendages. The appendagesare threaded into sleeves 34 having anchored bases 36.The row of appendages that extends radially outward by asmaller amount than the other appendages is subjected toreduced wear, but when the pig encounters resistance, thecentral part of the pig extends outward bringing theappendages into contact with the interior of thepipeline.
