CARTRIDGE-TYPE FAUCET VALVE WITH IMPROVED SEALAbstract of The DisclosureA cartridge-type faucet valve is provided whichincludes a housing with an inlet, an outlet and an insertassembly (or cartridge) seat interposed between the inletand outlet and for cooperating with a portion of aninsert assembly or cartridge to provide a seal betweenthe inlet and outlet. The insert assembly or cartridgeincludes a stationary elongated sleeve and a stem mountedwithin the sleeve which is longitudinally movable over arange of travel between a closed position and a fullyopen position. One section of the stem co-acts with thesleeve to control the longitudinal position of the stem.Another section of the stem cooperates with an internalsurface portion of the sleeve to provide a longitudinallyextending flow passage for communicating from the inletto the outlet. A seal piece is mounted on the stem andis adapted for engagement with a stationary seatingsurface adjacent one end of the sleeve. In operation,the seal piece is engaged with the seating surface onlyin the closed position for preventing flow to the flowpassage. The insert assembly or cartridge furtherincludes a seal interposed between the two above-mentioned stem sections for isolating the first mentionedsection from the flow passage. The insert assembly orcartridge also includes a deformable seal for providingstatic sealing engagement with the insert assembly seat,the seal adapted to be in deformed static compressionagainst the insert assembly seat when the insert assemblyis assembled with the housing.
