Faithful color images are created in an efficientmanner for display on a specific computer display. Astandard computer system generates a palette calibrationtable, based on information about a standard display. Thestandard computer system then creates a device independentimage from the palette calibration table and from anoriginal image. The palette calibration table and deviceindependent image are then transmitted to a specificcomputer system. The specific computer system receives thepalette calibration table and device independent image fromthe standard computer system. It calculates a displayspecific palette from the palette calibration table and frominformation about the specific display. The specificcomputer system then generates the faithful color image fordisplay by sending the device independent image and thedisplay specific palette to the display adapter in thespecific computer system.
