A viewing optics kit including at least one elongated flexible fiber-optic bundle (36) and an attachment means (60). The kit may also include a positioning jig (72). The kit is packaged in a vacuum-formed enclosure (83) having cavities formed therein defining compartments (84, 86, 88) for retaining the above-mentioned kit components. The enclosure (83) may be sealed with a cover (90) formed from a spun-bonded plastic fiber material, such as Tyvek R, which allows sterilization of the components after they are sealed within the enclosure. The attachment means preferably comprises a pressure-sensitive adhesive (60) allowing the fiber-optic bundle (36) to be adhered to an exterior surface of a surgical instrument immediately prior to performing the surgical procedure.
