METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR STACKING HIDES AND OTHER FLEXIBLE SHEET-LIKE PRODUCTS

An apparatus for stacking hides and other flexible sheet-like products includes a frame that supports a movable transport surface for advancing the hides in a selected direction, and a fixed supporting structure which is located after the transport surface to support a stack. A device is adapted to grip each individual hide that leaves the movable transport surface, and to roll up the hide, depositing it in a controlled manner on the fixed supporting structure. The device includes at least one roll-up roller that can turn about an axis which is substantially parallel to the movable transport surface and has a grip means to retain each individual hide at its leading edge. The grip means can be mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrostatic.
