An adaptive spectral postfilter (108) disposed in a synthesized speech platform comprises a denominator characteristic corresponding to a previous step of encoding linear prediction filter (LPC) (106) and a characteristic of numerator developed based of the characteristic by applying spectral smoothing techniques. The numerator can thus continue the denominator without introducing spectral distortion that would have influenced the treatment unfavorably.
