The wall element consists of a bottom wall (10) with, standing vertically thereon, a shield (11) and, extending rearwards at the side of the shield (11), side walls (12, 13). In the case of high walls, which may be 7 m high and higher, it has been established that the side walls (12, 13) do not withstand the high static load which exerts a moment on the bottom wall and collapse. The side walls (12, 13) are thus designed in such a manner that their upper end faces (12a, 13a) lie above the channel-like recesses (14, 15) present in the lower surface of the bottom wall (10).
