The invention relates to special constructional forms of double belt presses which are suitable in a special manner for the melt impregnation of long glass-fibre mats with thermoplastics and for compressing a scattered heap of thermoplastics to form endless webs. These presses have the special features of, on the one hand, a wedge-shaped feed zone in which the incoming material is brought to its final thickness under pressure which is continually increased in various ways and, on the other hand, means for the lateral sealing of the reaction zone, by which means a flowing out of the material is prevented and a uniform quality of the webs over the entire width is achieved.
