Hamamelis dry extract, process for its preparation and its use as a medicine

The invention makes available for the first time a hamamelis dry extract which, where appropriate besides conventional ancillary substances and additives, mainly contains those ingredients of an aqueous alcoholic extract of hamamelis plant material which have a molecular weight of at least 3,000 dalton. Also described are a process for the preparation of this dry extract and its use as antiviral medicine with low cytotoxicity, in particular for controlling herpes simplex viruses, and the use as vulnerary.
