The invention relates to antigenic polypeptides which are immunoreactive with sera from rabbits immunized with astrovirus. The antigens are useful in diagnostic methods for detecting infection by astrovirus in humans. Also disclosed are corresponding genomic clones containing fragments of polynucleotides encoding the sequences of open reading structure for the antigenic polypeptides.
