A circuit arrangement for converting the AC voltage from a supply network into an output DC voltage with an essentially sinusoidal current consumption at the network frequency by means of a step-up/step-down converter, which is operated as a step-down converter at output DC voltages which are less than the AC voltage, and is operated as a step-up converter at output DC voltages which are greater than the AC voltage.
