Téléphoniqes of wireless stations (38) generate packet call relay. The packets from each wireless telephone set are interrogated by an interrogation unit upstream avoiding interference between multiple units. Packet cells are transmitted through a cable TV system (36). The frequencies emitted by the wireless telephones are shifted in frequency as they enter the TV power cable or they quitent latter to allow frequency reuse. The upstream interrogation unit adds header information to the packet cell then converts them into standard protocol packets of asynchronous time division multiplex synchronous optical network. cell relay packets are switched by a cell relay-type switch to create a new telephone system and reduce costs.
