Process for the quaternisation of fatty acid esters of triethanolamine and imidazolinamides in alkoxylated fats or oils as the reaction medium and the use of the reaction mixture as a fabric conditioner component
Process for the quaternisation of fatty acid esters of triethanolamine and imidazolinamides in alkoxylated fats or oils as the reaction medium and the use of the reaction mixture as a fabric conditioner component
The invention relates to a process for the quaternisation of triethanolamine fatty acid esters and imidazolinamides with customary quaternising agents in alkoxylated natural fats or oils or their mixtures with free fatty acids or mono- and/or diglycerides as the reaction medium, and to the use of the resulting reaction mixtures as laundry conditioner components. By replacing the hitherto customary N-alkyl-N,N,N-trihydroxyalkylammonium fatty acid ester salts or 1-alkyl-2-alkyl-3-amidoimidazolinium salts (termed quats for short) in 2-propanol as the solvent with the claimed quats in alkoxylated fats as the reaction medium, the quantity of quats can be reduced by up to 68% for the same softening effect.
