New process and associated installation for the reduction of hexavalent chromium included in the soil remaining after the production of chromium, so as to carry out the transformation of water-soluble compounds into insoluble compounds. The process includes the steps of mixing the waste products with one or more reducing agents, and heating the mixture indirectly and substantially in the absence of oxygen.
