the invention relates to synthetic aperture radar data are used in conjunction with altimetric data in order to establish a topographic map after the correction of the angle of inclination of the platform. this technique uses two antennas and radar altimeter, synthetic target placed on a plane.the plane moves in a series of flight paths in parallel, each flight is directly above the land covered by the synthetic aperture radar flight next to it. on each flight, at least one antenna transmits a radar signal which repeatedly echoes are received by both the first and second antennas.they are treated in a conventional manner by the synthetic aperture radar in order to obtain a topographic map, without correction of the roll angle. the data of topographic map from a flight number is compared to data acquired at a nearby flight altitude.this allows the use of altimetric data in order to determine the roll angle when the corresponding data of the synthetic radar have been obtained. as the roll angle is then used to adjust the height and the distance of neighboring points on the ground topographic map uncorrected.thus, the correction of the angle of inclination of the topographic map is more accurate than that obtained by direct measurement of the roll angle.
