FIELD: high-molecular compounds. SUBSTANCE: process for preparing metal-substituted polyphthalocyanines having a molecular weight of 1200-2500 by polycyclotetramerizing tetracyanobenzene in the presence of anhydrous manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper or zinc chlorides in a monomer melt in the presence of 3-5 mole % urea at 290-310 C. The process improves technological properties of the desired products by making them soluble and expanding the field of their application. When properly treated, they can be transformed into insoluble polymers which are distinguished from the prior art by greater purity and homogeneity. EFFECT: improved properties of the desired products.
