An austenitic stainless steel with a high resistance to corrosion by hot water.

PURPOSE:To obtain an austenitic stainless steel excellent in corrosion resistance in warm water at a low cost by specifying a composition consisting of C, Si, Mn, P, S, Ni, Cr, Cu, N, and Fe. CONSTITUTION:This steel is an austenitic stainless steel having a composition which consists of =0.08% C, 2.5-4.0% Si, =0.8% Mn, =0.045% P, =0.005% S, 6-20% Ni, 16-25% Cr, 1.5-4.0% Cu, =0.05% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and to which, if necessary, 0.3-1.5% Mo, 0.05-3.0% Al, and 0.005-0.1% REM are further added independently or in combination and also having superior corrosion resistance in warm water, and, in this steel, the limit temp. of stress corrosion cracking is =about 100 deg.C and, further, sufficient crevice corrosion resistance is also provided.
