Use of composite sheet metal blanks as a means for the suppression of disturbing impact noises during opening and closing of garage door leaves

A garage door panel, and partic. one for hinged door assemblies, has a frame and infill metal sheets fixed to the door frame; the infills are made up of combinations of a front sheet, backing and a thin bonding sheet, of which the last mentioned is a layer of plastic material to absorb the energy of vibrations and is pref. made of polyvinylbutyral; moreover this layer has rubber or plastic insertions between the door frames and itself. The figure shows a vertical section of the edge. It has a frame (2) bonded to infill sheets (3) which themselves are composed of a front sheet (4), backing sheet (5), and thin plastic bonding sheet (6). The front layers (4) are 0.35 mm, backing layers (5) are similarly 0.35 mm, and the bonding core layers (6) are 0.1 mm thick. The cores (3) can be fixed metal to metal on the frame (2) but can also have an intermediate plastic layer. ADVANTAGE - The door concerned does not produce noise when it is opened or closed or strikes another body.
