The method produces large metal sliding door leaves travelling along guide rails. A series of vertical components (14,16,18) of the same width as the leaves are joined together. A fully-machined low-height bottom leaf transverse portion (12) extending for the leaf width is mounted on the rail (24) and held upright by auxiliary supports (26). The vertical components are then joined to the transverse portions at prepared points (34,36), and also to each other, after which the supports are removed.
