The combustor proposed has, located at the head end of the combustion chamber, at least one fuel-inlet nozzle (9) and at least one swirl device (7), which can be regulated as a function of the load, for the supply of combustion air, the swirl device having radial/tangential apertures (3) between the radial walls of an annular body disposed coaxially with the nozzle. Extending into these apertures are fingers (5) located round the end of a sleeve (4) which can be moved with respect to the annular body. The sleeve with its fingers is disposed so that it can be displaced longitudinally across the outside surface of the annular body, the fingers being angled with respect to the central combustor axis so that they are parallel to the longitudinally separated walls of the apertures and extending over the whole length of the apertures. The combustor proposed, optionally combined with at least one stationary swirl device (8), gives combustion with low polluant levels.
