An error-free frequency modulated signal ((So(t)), a signal contg. phase and amplitude error, a reference signal (ho(t)) corresp. to a conjugate complex function of the error-free signal, and a reference signal (hf(t)) corresp. to the conjugate complex, time-inverted input signal (sf(t)) are Fourier-transformed in respective FFT units (5.1,5.4). The outputs from two pairs of the FFT units (5.1,5.2;5.2,5.4) are multipled in two respective multipliers (5.5,5.6). The reciprocal of the output (1/Ff) from the first multiplier (5.5) is multiplied with the output (FO) of the second multiplier (5.6), and the resultant signal is further multiplied (5.9) with the output from the FFT unit (5.3). An inverse Fourier transform is then performed on the output from this fourth multiplier (5.9) to produce the reference function (hi(t)) in the time domain. ADVANTAGE - Eliminates all phase and amplitude errors in impulse compression.
