Components based on mineral wool are mfd. by a process involving; (i) mixing a slurry of mineral wool with water-soluble and -insoluble ingredients in a fluid; (ii) immersion of a mould (12) in the slurry and creation of a vacuum on the rear face of the mould (12) to draw the mineral wool fibres onto the tool surface; (iii) removal of the mould from the slurry after a given period and sealing against the surroundings such that only a low air flow streams from the mould; (iv) increasing pressure behind the component until sufficient to overcome the force holding component to tool surface (8); and (v) demoulding component from tool (12) by suddenly breaking the seal between the tool (12) and a flat sealing surface (17). USE/ADVANTAGE - For prodn. of mineral wool-based components e.g. noise absorbing elements. Permits rapid, demoulding of geometrically complex components.
