Tool-clamping system in shrunk-on chuck - uses gas-flame aimed join between shrunk-on and fixing sections of rotating chuck with surface designed to improve heat-transfer
Tool-clamping system in shrunk-on chuck - uses gas-flame aimed join between shrunk-on and fixing sections of rotating chuck with surface designed to improve heat-transfer
The chuck (20) comprises a section (14) shrunk onto the tool (12) and a fixing one (16) securing it to the machine-tool. The shrunk-on section is heated by a gas burner (26). The burner flame is aimed at the join (18) between the sections as the chuck is rotated, for tool insertion or removal. Heat transfer is improved at the surface, typically by sandblasting, corrugations, ribs or teeth, and there can be a cylindrical bore (15) in the shrunk-on section, ending shortly before the join. The burner head (24) can be so mounted that the flame is at between 10 and 20 deg. to the radial direction. USE/ADVANTAGE - Even heating of shrunk-on section and consequent high clamping force.
