Prepn. of cpds. of formula (3) is by reacting omega-azidoalkyldiketones of formula (4) by the intramolecular Aza-Wittig reaction method. R1 = 1-4C alkyl or phenyl; R2 = H or 1-4C alkyl, or R1, R2 form an ethylene linkage; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl; and n = 1-3. Also claimed are cpds. of formula (4), (5), (7) and (12), where R1 = 1-4C alkyl or phenyl; R2 = H or 1-4C alkyl, or R1, R2 form an ethylene linkage; R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl; R, R' = H, 1-6C alkyl or 6-12C aryl; and n = 1-3. USE/ADVANTAGE - (3) Are useful as flavourings for bakery products, e.g., bread. (4), (5), (7) and (12) are useful for the prepn. of (3). (3) Are prepd. from cheaper starting prods. and obtd. in higher yield than prior art synthesis methods.
