The front part (13) of the cover face adjoins the front edge (9) of the ramp and moves telescopically when encountering a horizontal compressive force (7) exerted horizontally on the front edge of the ram. The telescopic downward movement is against the force of a resetting spring which returns the front part 13) to its starting position when the horizontal compressive force ceases. The front part of the cover face can be formed by an advance tongue which when retracted closes flush with the leading edge (6) of the concrete ramp (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - Lorry can be reversed up to loading ramp without danger of damage in event of impact.
