The thinning method involves accelerating a vol. flow carrying a particle collection, an aerosol, and a partial flow guided at an angle w.r.t. the acceleration direction out of the accelerated flow. The partial flow is fed back without particles into a part of the vol. flow which has not yet been accelerated. The fine fraction is carried along with the diverted partial flow, passed via an absolute filter and fed back into the vol flow as a diluting flow before the acceleration stage. The vol. flow is accelerated by focussing. The partial flow can be diverted at right angles to the accelerated flow by suction. USE/ADVANTAGE - For thinning particle size distribution in aerosol using virtual impactor technique to achieve highly uniform particle size distribution.
