The present invention relates to the use of 3-aryl-substituted 5-alkylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid derivatives of the general formula (I) IMAGE in which R1 stands for alkyl or haloalkyl, R2 stands for substituted C1-C20-alkyl, C2-C18-alkenyl and cycloalkyl, and for optionally substituted cycloalkylalkyl, aralkyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl and heteroaryl, substituents which may be mentioned being halogen, cyano, nitro, amino, aminoacyl, alkylamino, alkyl, haloalkyl, aralkyl, hydroxyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, aryloxy, mercapto, alkylthio, haloalkylthio, alkylsulphinyl, haloalkylsulphinyl, alkylsulphonyl, haloalkylsulphonyl, aryl, hetaryl, arylthio or sulphonamidyl, X stands for O, S, NH-NH- or for the radical -N-R3, R3 stands for hydrogen, substituted C1-C20-alkyl, C2-C18-alkenyl and C1-C6-haloalkyl or R2 and R3, together with the adjacent N atom, stand for a 5-, 6- or 7-membered ring which can optionally also be interrupted by O, S or N and is optionally substituted by C1-C4-alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, R4 stands for hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or haloalkyl, for combating endoparasites in medicine and veterinary medicine, and also to novel compounds of the formula (I) and their preparation.
