Detecting and interpreting leaks in non-metallic pipes with electrically conductive liquids, e.g. waste water, - evaluating variations in potential field in liquid as movable electrode approaches leakage point.
The method involves detecting the influence on the potential field of an electric current, emitted into the waste water in the vicinity of the leakage point, of the passage of parts of the total flow through the leakage aperture. The liquid flow passing the leakage point is simulated using the electric current between a movable electrode and a stationary earth electrode. A voltage generator is applied and measurement probes used to sense potential changes as the movable electrode approaches the leakage point. USE/ADVANTAGE - For safe detection and quantitative evaluation of leaks in waste water channels and similar systems using electrical measurements.
