The transmission system has a helper signal (HS) for a 16:9 image reproduction ratio transmitted during one line group of each image. The helper signal is multiplied with a sinusoidal oscillation (fmod) prior to its transmission, with only the upper sideband being transmitted. Pref. the sinusoidal oscillation is free of DC components and harmonics, with suppression of the base band signal within the signal provided by the multiplier stage (3) using a high pass filter (4), pref. with a Nyquist characteristic. ADVANTAGE - Reduced error in reproduced TV image.
