Pretreating shavings containing wood cellulose using high pressure steam - using autoclaves with lids revolving about transverse axes powered by individual motors

The appts. consists of two autoclaves (1,2) with lids (6,7) and individual power units (4,5). The vessels are mounted on transverse pivots and revolve on their axes (3), but they can be held in a vertical position. There are connections for high pressure steam (8,9) near the axis (3), which is supplied from a steam producing source (16) through valves (15,10,11). The first autoclave is filled with shavings, the lid locked on and steam fed into it up to the required pressure. It is then rotated to rapidly and intensively mix the shavings with the steam, which is then cut off. The second autoclave is filled, the pressure equalised and the whole process is repeated. USE/ADVANTAGE - Pretreatment plant can process wood shavings in very large quantities.
