Measuring cross=sectional area in automatic assembly machine - passing body through multiple light barriers and integrating signal function of shadow over distance travelled

The method involves passing a body (4) through a light barrier (1,2), measuring a signal function corresp. to the shadow of the body and integrating the signal function over the distance of the body's passage through the light line. The body is passed twice through one light barrier or through two light barriers in series and is rotated through 90 deg. after the first transition. Alternatively, multiple transitions can be performed using one or more light barriers and step rotations up to a total rotation of at least 90 and at most 180 deg.. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for quality control during assembly of standard components in automatic assembly systems. Enables measurement of any cross-section at low cost and high speed.
