Optical fibre adaptor with integrated isolator for optical transmitter module - contains isolator with Faraday rotator between input and output couplings, and uses standard connectors

The optical transmitter module has a housing (6) with a laser diode (2a) contained in a laser diode housing (2) with a window (26) facing a lens (3) mounted in a guide (4) aligned with an output coupling (1), cooperating with an optical fibre adapter. The output coupling has a guide (7) cooperating with a ferrule of the optical fibre adapter its end face acting as a stop edge (8) for defining the position of the latter. The adapter has a housing with an isolator between the input and output couplings, e.g. standard connectors, at its opposite ends employing an optical direction waveguide with a Faraday rotator. ADVANTAGE - Isolation of up to -60 dB is possible. Transmission module and adapter can be separated for high specification flexibility, e.g. in sensor applications.
