A household laundry dryer has a laundry drum driven by an electric motor via a drive belt, and a tensioning device (14, 15) which is connectede to a toothed control locking mechanism (19, 20). The mechanism permits the tensioning device (14, 15) to follow the yieldingess of the drive belt (2) automatically but excludes counter movements. ADVANTAGE - A yielding of the drive belt leads to an automatic subsequent adjustment of the tensioning device. A return movement of the clamping device in the event of stronger traction on the belt is, however, not taken into account.
