A common bolt (2) for tightening of all bus-bars has a smooth shank (5) between threaded ends (3, 4). A compression ring (10) around one end (4) is clamped by an adjustment nut (8) not readily accessible to the assembler. At the other end (3), a screw cap (67) is tightened around a protruding peg (6) to compress the combination of busbars, insulators, compression rings (9, 10) and spring washers (11, 12). A safety strip (22) is hinged to an indicating disc (26) and secured by a catch (28), releasable by means of a screwdriver inserted through a small slot (29). USE/ADVANTAGE - For e.g. distribution from transformers to skyscraper storeys or large loads, tension can be measured and adjusted directly with automatic compensation for friction, lubrication, surface treatment or contamination.
