Domestic water softener valve system - has two adjacent discs and connectors which regenerates softening agent and requires no additional membrane or piston valves

A valve system for an ion exchange unit has at least one vessel filled with ion-exchanger resin, through which flows the liquid or substance effecting regeneration of the exhausted ion exchanger. The valve system consists of a pair of adjacent discs which turn relative to each other around a common axle. Each disc has a very smooth flat sealing area (1) and a rear face (13) with main and secondary connectors through which pass the liquid under treatment and the regenerative solution. The discs have passages (10,11,12) into which are integrated all the required the valve functions, namely the control function and the main valve function to control the volume flow, and the discs also facilitate the salting operation and two of the following three operations: (1) washing out regeneration substance residue from the ionic exchanger; (2) back flow rinsing of the vessel; (3) rinsing of the first filtrate into a drain pipe. Pref., the openings (2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) and passages (10,11,12) of the two discs are so designed that a single resin holder can be operated as a single column unit with its relevant pair of discs. USE/ADVANTAGE - The valve system is installed in domestic water softeners. The arrangement facilitates the construction of a water softener which requires no additional membrane or piston valves to deal with large flows of liquid through a vessel filled with ion exchanger resin.
