Tanker with immediate control bridge indication of damage to bottom - has rope passing over guide rollers which breaks if ship runs aground causing alarm to be actuated and location of damage indicated on control bridge
An oil tanker includes side tanks separated from a middle tank by elongate slots (12). Several side and middle tanks project through transverse slots (14). On the inner side of each tank at a predetermined height from the base of the tank, there is a rope (15). The rope (15) is stretched between an anchor (19) and a guide roller (20) (Fig.3). The rope (15) passes through guides (17) and a guide roller (18) and is spaced from springs (16). A switch cylinder (21) connected to the rope (15) is provided on the cover of each tank and is held there by the tension of the rope (15). If the rope (15) is broken due to the bottom of the ship being damaged, the springs (23) are released causing an alarm on the bridge to be triggered and the damaged tank is displayed on the monitor on the bridge. ADVANTAGE - Bridge is automatically and directly alerted while bottom of tank is being damaged, by optical or acoustic alarm and exact position of damage is simultaneously displayed.
