The jaw segment insert (3) fits into the conical bore (2) of the chuck body and is locked onto the axially displaceable draw-head (12) by the engagement in a circumferential slot (11) of radial locking plates (15). Axial movement of the draw-head pulls the insert into the conical bore (2) and closes the jaws onto the work. When the draw-head (12) is moved forwards into a region outside the tightening range tapered hole (16) in the locking plate engages the conical head of a peg (17) and the locking plates are pushed outwards into a circumferential recess (6, 4). This releases the jaw segment insert and enables it to be withdrawn. USE/ADVANTAGE - Design of chuck with exchangeable jaw segment insert promotes exact centring of work but allows jaw segment insert to be easily changed.
