Reactor with solid or fluid bed for chemical or absorptive processes - has gap between adjacent heat pipes no greater than the length of smallest active particle maximising heating or cooling effect in reactor
A reactor has a solid bed or a fluid bed (4) made of active particles (1) with pipes (2) through which flows a heat transporting medium. The pipes (2) are wound in one or more layers about an axis (5) which may be the reactor's prime axis. The novelty is that the distance cm between two adjacent pipes (2) in the axial direction is no greater than the smallest length (dp) of the active particles (1). Pref. the neighbouring axial pipes (2) within a single layer are mutually transposed by a distance v, at right angles with respect to the axis (5) and that v is smaller than the pipe diameter (d). USE/ADVANTAGE - The reactor is for use in a range of chemical and adsorptive processes where heat is transmitted through the reactor bed. The heating or cooling effect is achieved due to the very limited axial gaps between adjacent pipes.
