Friction pair part (partner) has a protective layer for strong friction wear and wear by aggressive environment and friction partners, such as special steels, carbon materials or coated materials. The protective layer is formed of a material comprising not more than 20% Cr and not more than 50% Co applied by thermal spraying; or is formed of a material made of metal carbides with surrounding metal matrix also applied by thermal spraying. Pref. the layer material also contains amts. of W, Si and C; or is a layer of W-carbides with Co-matrix. A powder spraying process is used operating at particles speeds of more than 200 m/s, pref. 300 m/s. The layer is esp. formed by high temp. flame spraying or plasma spraying. USE - Used in appts. for regulating and controlling gas, vapours or liquids, e.g. corresponding sealing plates, disks or rings.
