A primary radiation diaphragm for a radiation system has up to four diaphragm plates (3, 4, 5, 6) which are positionable in a plane perpendicular to the central ray of the radiation emitter (1). Each diaphragm plate (3-6) has its own mounting (9-12) which supports the diaphragm plate on one end and which is moveable along one of two guide ways. The diaphragm plates are arranged in two planes (7, 8) in pairs so that within each pair there are two opposing plates. The plates provide a square or rectangular aperture to the radiation (2). ADVANTAGE - The radiation diaphragm is smaller, lighter, easier to set up and cheaper than previous designs.
