In concn. and purificn. of pertechnetate generator eluate (I), the pertechnetate (II) is reduced to Tc hydroxide (III), fixed on an adsorbent (IV), re-oxidised on this and then eluted again. (II) is reduced with SnCl2. (IV) is Al2O3. (III) is re-oxidised by heating to over 300 deg.C in the presence of nitrate. If (I) contains NaNO3, heating alone is sufficient. If (I) contains NaCl, the nitrate is provided by washing (IV) with nitrate soln. before heating. Alternatively, (III) is re-oxidised by adding ammoniacal H2O2 soln. and then heating. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is useful for concn. and purificn. of the nuclide (99m)Tc in (I) contg. little radioactive matter, as obtd. by elution of Mo/Tc generators made from (n,gamma)Mo. This nuclide is useful in nuclear medical diagnostics. The process is also suitable for recovery of (188)Re, used as marker for antibodies, from perrhenate soln. obtd. by elution of a 188W / 188Re generator. The process is simple and effective in the clinical field. Quantitative adsorption and elution can be attained.
