Cast light metal alloy component - has expensive wear resistant alloy bush cast around hub portion of inexpensive alloy main body

A novel cast light metal alloy component, pref. produced by pressure die casting or forge casting, has a hub-like extension (2), for accommodating rotating machine parts (5, 6, 7) and a wear resistant light metal alloy bush (3) cast around the extension (2). Pref. the component (1) is made of hypoeutectic Al-Si-Cu alloy (e.g. GD-AlSi9Cu3) and the bush (3) is made of hypereutectic Al-Si-Cu alloy (e.g. GD-AlSi17Cu4Mg). Prodn. of the above component involves casting the component in a first mould, transferring the solidified component to a second mould and casting the more wear resistant alloy around the hub-like extension. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. as an intermediate plate of an automatic transmission. The major part of the component consists of an inexpensive Al alloy having good casting, strength and machining properties, while only the bush consists of an expensive, wear resistant Al alloy.
